Boundary Review 2025

Antigonish County is divided into electoral districts. Currently, there are ten districts, and each district is represented by a member of Council. Provincial legislation requires that the boundaries of the districts are reviewed every eight years, to make sure that districts are as equal in the number of electors as possible. With the growth and movement of people in Antigonish County, the district boundaries need to be changed.

Existing Boundaries (set in 2014)

Proposed Boundaries for 2028

A pdf of this map showing the potential new boundaries for discussion at the public open houses can be viewed here:  2025 Boundary Review Map

A big change between the current boundaries and the proposed boundaries is the use of local communities to define the boundaries of a district.  Wherever possible, the entire community (e.g. Lakevale, Beech Hill, Afton) is contained within one district, instead of being split.  This allows residents to quickly identify their district based on their Canada Post mailing address.

The following is a summary of communities found within each district:

Proposed District 1

Proposed District 2

Proposed District 3

Proposed District 4

Proposed District 5

Proposed District 6

Proposed District 7

Proposed District 8

Proposed District 9

Proposed District 10

!New! A package summarizing these maps, with a comparison of the existing areas of each district, can be accessed here

You can view of summary of the communities in each district in a text-only format with additional details of street names where necessary here  (format updated October 21st based on community feedback).

Additional Information

You can learn more about this project by reviewing the staff reports and presentations that were made to the Committee of the Whole this year:

Interested in learning more about the 2023-24 boundary review process, where the number of councillors and districts was examined?  Read the report to Council here.

What Comes Next?

We are now in the stage of public consultation, which is planned to run until November 7, 2025.

View the Timeline here: Boundary Review 2025 Timeline

Once public consultation is complete, staff will prepare a summary report to Council, who may provide direction to revise the map based on the public feedback.  A final report will be prepared for Council’s consideration in December, and once approved, will be submitted to the NSUARB.

What does the NSUARB do once they receive our submission for the revision to the district boundaries?  Learn more on page three and four in this document.
