Administration

Headed by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Municipality of the County of Antigonish administration directs and coordinates the general management of the business affairs of the County, in accordance with the by-laws, policies, and plans approved by Council.

Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is the administrative lead of the Municipality and serves as the primary link between Municipal Council and staff. As Council’s only direct employee, the CAO is responsible for implementing Council’s direction, providing strategic advice, and overseeing the administration and operations of the Municipality.

The CAO also oversees the preparation of reports, policies, budgets, and recommendations to support Council’s decision-making and ensure municipal services are delivered effectively.

Administration Department

The Administration Department provides corporate leadership and administrative support to Municipal Council while coordinating the Municipality’s day-to-day operations. Working closely with all departments, Administration helps ensure municipal services are delivered efficiently and in accordance with Council’s priorities.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing administrative support and advice to Municipal Council.
• Coordinating municipal operations and corporate services.
• Implementing Council’s policies, decisions, and strategic priorities.
• Supporting responsible financial management and organizational planning.
• Ensuring appropriate staffing and effective service delivery across departments.
• Maintaining official municipal records, including Council and committee minutes, by-laws, policies, and other corporate documents.
• Managing records and document retention, certifying official documents, and maintaining the Municipal Seal.
