Antigonish Scotiabank Mini-Pitch Available to Public
Antigonish, NS – The Municipality of the County of Antigonish along with the Town of Antigonish is excited to announce the completion of the Antigonish Scotiabank Mini-Pitch located on Appleseed Drive. The courts are now available for public use with a grand opening scheduled for June 2025.
This exciting project is made possible through a generous donation from Scotiabank and the collaboration of several partners, including the Municipality of the County of Antigonish, which contributed $500,000 and the Town of Antigonish, which contributed $300,000, the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism, and Heritage, which contributed $150,000 and the Strait Regional Centre for Education which donated the land.
The Antigonish Scotiabank Mini-Pitch is a shared recreational space for drop-in free play. It features a sport tile surface, with side panels, soccer goals and basketball hoops, and additional space for free play. Strategically located near local schools and neighbourhoods, the mini-pitch is designed to be accessible and inclusive for families, children, and youth of all abilities.
“This new recreational space is a fantastic addition to our community,” says County Warden Nicholas MacInnis. “The Antigonish Scotiabank Mini-Pitch offers fun, inclusive, and accessible opportunities for children, youth, and families. We’re excited to see this project come to fruition and encourage everyone to check out this new facility.”
This project aligns with Scotiabank’s ScotiaRISE platform, which focuses on empowering youth, newcomers, and disadvantaged communities. The mini-pitch also supports local strategic goals for inclusivity and accessibility.
“The Antigonish Scotiabank Mini-Pitch is an incredible addition to our community, creating a space where children and youth can gather and play in a safe and inclusive environment,” says Town Mayor Sean Cameron. “This project reflects the spirit of collaboration and community that makes Antigonish so special. We are grateful to Scotiabank and our partners for their commitment to making this vision a reality.”
Antigonish Resident Trevor Reddick adds, “I am very excited about the opening of the new mini-pitch facility in Antigonish. The mini-pitch will provide a safe and accessible space for free play opportunities for our local youth, some of whom may not have access to other facilities for various reasons. I’m very thankful to Scotiabank, the Town and County of Antigonish, and the Strait Regional Centre for Education for their overwhelming support of this project.”
The Antigonish Scotiabank Mini-Pitch reflects the community’s shared vision for fostering health, inclusion, and accessibility. The community looks forward to celebrating this milestone during its grand opening in spring 2025.
