Interim Dog Control Officer

The Municipality of the County of Antigonish is seeking applications for a contract Dog Control Officer. This is an interim position, providing dog control services to the County.

This position reports to the Deputy Clerk. This individual will be responsible for monitoring the dog control phone line and responding to complaints and questions regarding the By-Law Respecting the Responsible Ownership of Dogs in the County.  This will include travel throughout the County.

The successful applicant must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including de-escalating conflict and diffusing tense situations. The successful candidate will also require:

  • A valid Class 5 Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • A criminal record check and an appointment from the Department of Justice.
  • A demonstrated ability to interpret and apply by-laws.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills

Specific training or certificates related to animal control, the safe handling of dogs, and the handling of dangerous dogs is considered an asset.
