Antigonish residents invited to take part in community-wide movement challenge
Local initiative builds on strong community momentum to support everyday movement
ANTIGONISH, NOVA SCOTIA | MAY 5, 2026 — Residents of Antigonish are invited to take part in a new community-wide movement challenge launching May 9, encouraging people to build simple, everyday movement into their daily lives while connecting with others across the community.
The launch coincides with Make Your Move Day, proclaimed by the Province of Nova Scotia in 2023, recognizing the importance of movement in supporting healthier, more connected communities.
Running through June 30, the Make Your Move Community Challenge offers a shared experience where residents can track their activity, discover local events and take part in activities happening throughout Antigonish. The challenge is free and open to all residents.
Participants will use the Wellnify.ai app to log activities such as walking, stretching, gardening and taking the stairs, earning points along the way for chances to win locally sourced prizes throughout the challenge. The app also highlights community events, volunteer opportunities and ways to get involved locally.
Antigonish is one of four communities participating in the Make Your Move Communities initiative, a multi-year pilot project funded by the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage (CCTH) and supported by the Healthy Tomorrow Foundation. The initiative focuses on making movement more visible, accessible and part of everyday life through community-led efforts.
In Antigonish, this work has already taken shape through local leadership, connected spaces and a growing culture of everyday movement across the community.
“This challenge builds on the momentum we’ve already seen in Antigonish,” said Sam Gorman, Make Your Move Antigonish Community Coordinator, Antigonish County Recreation. “There’s a strong foundation here — people are already finding ways to move more and connect with one another. This is about making those opportunities more visible and inviting more people to be part of it.”
“What’s exciting about this challenge in Antigonish is how it brings together everything that’s already happening in the community in one place,” said Travis McDonough, CEO of Wellnify.ai. “Our platform helps make those opportunities more visible and easier to take part in, so residents can connect, stay motivated and see the impact of their everyday movement.”
The challenge builds on local energy and making it easier for residents to take part. Throughout the challenge, residents will hear directly from their community through weekly videos featuring local leaders, along with movement tips from trusted voices, including lifestyle medicine family physician Dr. Irina Ghenea, Healthy Tomorrow Foundation movement ambassador Tara Taylor and Nova Scotia’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Robert Strang.
Recognizing the role of social connection in well-being, participants can also earn points by helping a neighbour or doing good in the community, reinforcing that movement is not just physical, but social.
The Make Your Move Community Challenge is supported by the Healthy Tomorrow Foundation and funded by CCTH, with Wellnify.ai providing the digital platform that brings together local activities, people and places in one shared space. Residents can follow Make Your Move Antigonish’s Facebook page for updates and additional ways to get involved throughout the challenge.
