We are hiring a Municipal By-law Officer 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Municipality of the County of Antigonish is seeking applications for a By-law Officer. This position reports to the Municipal Clerk. This individual will be responsible for responding to complaints regarding municipal by-laws, including monitoring the dog control phone line and responding to complaints and questions regarding the By-Law Respecting the Responsible Ownership of Dogs in the County. This position includes the need to travel throughout the County.

The successful applicant must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including de-escalating conflict and diffusing tense situations.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL ALSO REQUIRE: 

• College Diploma and/or Trade/Vocational Certificate in police foundations, criminal justice, security management, law and security administration, or an equivalent.
• Two (2) to five (5) years of experience related to by-law enforcement or a comparable role.
• A valid Class 5 Nova Scotia driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract.
• A clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
• Must qualify for appointment as a Special Constable from the Department of Justice.
• A demonstrated ability to interpret and apply by-laws.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
